Itasca County voters select two new commissioners
GRAND RAPIDS — Itasca County voters settled two contested County Board races, chose a new county attorney and backed a constitutional amendment on school funding Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office. All 75 of the county’s precincts had reported as of Wednesday afternoon. The results are unofficial until certified by the county canvassing board. County Board The closest local race was in County Commissioner District 3, where Robert Preble led John A. Johnson by 41 votes, 1,523 to 1,482. Preble received 50.15 percent and Johnson 48.80 percent. Write-in candidates received 32 votes. In District 1, Lonny Witkofsky defeated Cory Smith, 2,338 votes to 1,745. Witkofsky took 57.15 percent of the vote to Smith’s 42.65 percent. Casey Venema was unopposed in District 5 and received 3,460 votes. Countywide offices In the only contested countywide office, Cassidy Villeneuve defeated Devin J. Gorski for county attorney, 13,070 votes to 5,302. Villeneuve received 70.81 percent of the vote. Sheriff Joe Dasovich was unopposed and received 16,949 votes. Austin M. Rohling was unopposed for county auditor/treasurer and received 16,634 votes.
