WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — The sister of a Triad woman killed in an early morning shooting outside a Winston-Salem bar is urging anyone who might have been there to help police find the person responsible.

Desiree Shields can’t believe how fast her life changed.

Parkland High School student accused of assaulting teacher will be tried as an adult, attorney says

“We were walking to go to the car. This guy came around the corner with the gun … Let one shot off, and then it turned into craziness,” Desiree said.

Her 37-year-old sister Julia Shields was leaving CB’s Tavern in Winston-Salem around 2 a.m. Sunday when a fight between two men ended with a gun being fired.

“Looked back, and she was shot,” Desiree said.

Desiree rushed Julia to the hospital before the police arrived.

On Monday, the mother of four passed away.

Julia’s oldest son, 16-year-old Jacarie Walker, says she was a motivator and center of his world.

“She didn’t bother a soul. She was just always about her kids. Her kids were number one. She always taught me about God and about Christ and how important it was,” Walker said.

Winston-Salem police say more than 50 people witnessed Sunday morning’s shooting in the CB’s Tavern parking lot.

They tell FOX8 that so far, officers have struggled to get anyone to cooperate and help them with their investigation.

It’s something that frustrates Julia’s husband Charles Robinson.

“She just wanted to have a little fun with her friend and her sister. She should’ve came back home that night. There’s too many incidents and crazy crimes going on and innocent people dying,” Robinson said.

While police work to identify and arrest a suspect, Desiree hopes sharing this story about her sister and best friend will encourage anyone who was in there that morning to come forward.

If you have any information on the shooting, you’re asked to contact Winston-Salem police. The family has set up a GoFundMe.
