CHICAGO (CBS) — The death of a 10-year-old is under investigation in Northwest Indiana. Last Thursday afternoon, Porter County patrol officers responded to a house, in the 200 block of Falcon Way, for a "medical emergency."Police Sgt. Benjamin McFalls said a 10-year-old was taken to a local hospital and later died. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

An apparent shooting at a Merrillville apartment complex Friday sent one person to the hospital and caused a temporary lockdown at Andrean High School. Merrillville police say they were called to the Tan-Tar-A Apartment Complex on 58th Avenue around 12:45 p.m. There, they found one person with a gunshot wound.
Truck spills scrap metal, blocks highway in northwest Indiana
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A truck spilled a load of scrap metal in a crash Wednesday morning in Valparaiso, Indiana.Police said a commercial truck crashed near the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and State Road 49. The truck tipped over in the crash, spilling scrap metal on the road.Eastbound Highway 30 and the ramp from southbound State Road 49 to Highway 30 were closed after the crash.Police urged drivers to avoid the area.No injuries have been reported.
Police release new details on officer-involved shooting near Valparaiso park
VALPARAISO, Ind. (WNDU) - Police are releasing new details after a man was shot and killed by police last week during “an exchange of gunfire” near a park in Valparaiso. Officers from the Valparaiso Police Department and the Porter County Sheriff’s Office were called around 2 p.m. Thursday to the area of Fairgrounds Park on reports of a suspicious man who was allegedly waving around a handgun.
Man convicted after touching teen at Hammond library
A man was convicted Monday after groping a teen at the Hammond Public Library. Tony Clark, 23, of Hammond, was charged in November 2023 with sexual battery, a Level 6 felony. He could face six months to 2 ½ years in prison. His sentencing is May 30. Mayor Jon Costas performed the ceremony within the council chambers of City Hall, with nu merous officers, civilian staff, and family present to witness the event.
