Dump truck flips over, snags major roadway in Addison
ADDISON, Ill. (CBS) -- A driver was injured after a dump truck rolled over on Route 53 in west suburban Addison Friday afternoon.The crash happened on Old Route 53 about a quarter mile south of Fullerton Avenue—near the boundary line between Addison and Lombard.The five-axle dump truck slammed into the guardrail on the side of the road, lost its load, and ended up on its side.The driver had to be extricated—a process that involves removing the vehicle from the driver, rather than removing the driver from the vehicle, and thus takes time.The rescue was made with the help of a tow truck to relieve pressure. Part of the guardrail the truck hit also had to be cut away for the rescue.The driver had significant injuries from being pinned behind the wheel of the dump truck, and was taken by emergency medical helicopter to a local trauma center for treatment.A wrecked car was also seen on a flatbed tow truck at the scene.Both Addison and Lombard police were on the scene—with Lombard police blocking off Old Route 53 at North Avenue about a mile south of the crash site.Old Route 53 was expected to be closed throughout the afternoon.

Woman kills ex-daughter-in-law in murder-suicide in NYC, police say
NEW YORK – A woman fatally shot her former daughter-in-law before killing herself on the Upper East Side Friday, police said.The shooting took place around 9 a.m. on East 88th Street – just half a block away from the mayor's residence, Gracie Mansion.The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Marisa Galloway, a single mother of two girls, ages 1 and 4.Police said 65-year-old Kathleen Leigh, the grandmother of Galloway's 4-year-old daughter, shot Galloway before shooting herself. 2 killed, including a teen, in Brighton Park shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were killed, including a teenager, in a shooting Friday morning in the Brighton Park neighborhood.Police said, around 10:40 a.m., a 16-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man were in the 2500 block of West 46th Street, when an SUV pulled up, and someone got out and started shooting.The 16-year-old was shot in the head and chest, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.The 40-year-old man was shot in the chest and leg, and was taken to Mount Sinai in grave condition, but later died.Family said the two victims were related.Several shell casings were left at the scene.After the shooting, emotions were high as family members consoled each other outside of the home where the shooting took place. At least one family member said they heard a string of gunfire, looked out of the window, and saw a woman screaming. Boar's Head recalls liverwurst across the U.S. over listeria risk
Boar's Head Provisions is recalling all of its liverwurst products on store shelves because it could contain listeria, the U.S. Food and Safety Inspection Service said Friday. The announcement comes as health officials investigate a listeria outbreak that has sickened 34 people and caused two deaths in more than a dozen states. Boar's Head also said some of its deli meat products could contain listeria, a type of bacteria that can cause illness known as listeriosis. CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities in central Illinois on Friday released an autopsy report that confirmed 36-year-old Sonya Massey died of a gunshot wound to the head, after she was shot by a sheriff's deputy in Springfield earlier this month.According to the autopsy report from the Sangamon County Coroner's office, Massey was shot just beneath her left eye, and the bullet exited the back of her upper neck. Man dies after being shot, dropped off at hospital on South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) — A man was shot and killed Thursday night on the city's South Side.The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of South State Street in the Park Manor neighborhood. Police say officers responded to Jackson Park Hospital, where the victim, between 30-40 years of age, was dropped off at the hospital by someone driving a white car, who then left the area. The victim later died. As of Friday, no arrests were made. Area 1 detectives were investigating.
2024 Taste of Chicago in Grant Park food and music lineup released
CHICAGO (CBS) — The city announced this year's Taste of Chicago food and music lineup on Friday. The food festival will return to Grant Park's Buckingham Fountain from September 6 through September 8. The Taste will have 40 food vendors, and a dozen food trucks, including Chicago's favorites like Lou Malnati's, Eli's Cheesecake and The Original Rainbow Cone. Festival headliners include hip-hop singer Cee-Lo Green, sibling trio Yahritza y Su Esencia and Australian alternative rockers Atlas Genius. The family-friendly event also includes a kid's area with inflatables and activities. Ahead of the main event, check out the neighborhood pop-ups in Marquette Park on July 27 and Pullman Park on August 17. CPD seek man in violent robbery on CTA Red Line at 47th Street
CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago police are searching for the suspect in a violent robbery on a CTA train earlier this month. It happened on the Red Line train at 47th St. on July 14, around 9:53 p.m. Police said the suspect approached the victim while riding the train and became irate. That's when he struck the victim with a pair of pliers, cutting them, and then began strangling the victim. The robber then took the victim's cell phone. The victim was able to get off the train at 47th Street and notified CTA staff, who then contacted the police. Surveillance cameras captured the suspect, who was said to be between 30-35 years old, and was wearing a red baseball cap with a white Bulls jersey and light blue pants at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bureau of Detectives – Mass Transit at 312-745-4447.
