Wimberley sophomore Lilli Sandoval (No. 18) and Boerne’s Emma Gerlach compete with each other to maintain control of the ball during the second half of play in the final home game of the regular season for the Lady Texans. The Greyhounds won the game 2-0, but both 4A District 26 teams are in the playoffs and could meet again.

The Wimberley Lady Texans soccer team’s final home game of the regular season on March 19 was a bitter 2-0 loss to Boerne, but both teams are likely to meet in the third round of the playoffs and the loss is all the incentive the Lady Texans need to get there. “We’ll learn from this game and put this [loss] behind us,” sophomore Lilli Sandoval said after the game. “We know what we have to do in the playoffs and can look forward to meeting them again.” Both Greyhound goals were scored in the second half, the second of which was on a penalty kick. The two teams tied 2-2 in their previous meeting and the loss landed Wimberley 6-2-2, in third place in 4A Region IV District 26 instead of a three-way tie for first place with Davenport 7-1-2, and Boerne 7-1-2. “At this point, this game means nothing. First, second or third doesn’t matter now,” head coach Eric Nichols told his team after the game. “We’re in the playoffs and that’s what matters. We haven’t played our best game yet and we’ll get another chance at them.” At press time on Tuesday, March 26, the Wimberley Lady Texans are set to meet Gateway College Preparatory in the Bi-District round of playoffs. The winner will meet either Pleasanton or Yoakum in the Area round, set to be played on March 28. Wimberley’s boys soccer team has also made the playoffs and will meet Marble Falls in the Bi-District round. The winner will meet Uvalde or Fox Tech in the Area round on March 28.
