The release of audio from several 911 calls offers more insight into an early morning shooting in Wilmington where police found two with gunshot wounds and one dead.

Police responded to the 400 block of McRae Street around 1:19 a.m. on May 3 , according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.

Two Wilmington men -- Jacqual Goodman, 23, and Timothy McMillian, 42 -- were found with gunshot wounds. Goodman was pronounced dead on the scene and McMillian later died at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The first 911 caller said they were in the 300 block of McRae Street at the time of the shooting.

"We were outside ... we were just chilling with some friends, we got up, we were talking, we were heading home," the caller said. "Down the street it sounded like some people were maybe arguing, but it didn't sound like anything serious. Suddenly there were very loud pops."

Initially, the caller said they thought the sound was fireworks.

"Then a couple more went off and they whizzed by us," the caller said. "They were absolutely bullets."

After hearing the gunshots, the caller said their group got in their car and drove down the street before immediately contacting law enforcement.

"The first time there was ... four to six shots and then there was another two to three," the caller said when asked by the 911 operator how many rounds were fired.

The caller said they were standing outside of 314 McRae St. and the people shooting were in the direction of 316 McRae St., adding that they were likely a block or two away.

"My friend ... just said that someone did run away afterwards. I did not see this," the caller said, adding that a man in in a blue sweatshirt and gray sweatpants fled from the scene in the same direction as the bullets, heading south down McRae Street.

According to the caller, approximately two to three males and two females were part of the group "that seemed like (they were) involved" and also dispersed from the scene.

The call lasts nearly five minutes and concludes at approximately 1:20 a.m. after police arrived on scene.

A second 911 caller from 416 McRae St. requested Emergency Medical Services.

"I need EMS. He got shot. I heard gunshots," the caller said, adding that they ran outside of their house after hearing shots fired. The caller located a man they estimate to be in his 20s, noting that he was breathing at the time of the call. Police were on scene.

When the phone operator asks if the attacker is nearby, the caller said "nobody is near here." The caller said they did not know where the man had been shot or whether he was bleeding seriously.

The call concludes after the operator dispatches paramedics to the area.

A third caller said they received a call from someone saying they have just been shot. It appears that the caller is referring to a relative, but the identity of the individual has been redacted from the call audio.

"I pulled up his location and it's saying he's near 306 McRae Street," the caller said. "I don't know and he keeps fading in and out."

The caller specifies that the person they are referring to is roughly around the age of 43. The caller said they are calling from the hospital.

The call concludes after the operator says they will let somebody know to reach back out to the caller when more information is available.

Someone who appears to be the same caller made an additional call to 911.

"I have a location that says it's near McRae Street ... he was telling me about Chestnut and that's where his phone is pinging at," the caller said. "I need somebody to give me a call because they just brought somebody in, I'm just trying to see do they have my brother?"

The caller specifies that they are calling from the hospital.

"Before I try to leave, I don't want to leave and they bring him here," the caller said.

The audio concludes after the operator says they will let somebody know to reach back out to the caller with more information.
