Wilmington-area high school sports top performers March 25-30

Some inclement weather on Thursday shook up the Wilmington area high school sports week, but we still have plenty of big performances to look at.

In softball, Laney remained perfect in the conference play Topsail, and South Brunswick earned wins over Hoggard.

Ashley knocked off Topsail Wednesday in baseball to give the Pirates their first conference loss of the season.

Here are the best Wilmington-area high school sports performances for the final week of March.

Wednesday

Baseball

Quinn Bentley, Jr., Ashley: Bentley went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, one RBI, a double and a triple as the Screaming Eagles trounced Topsail 13-2.

John Mason, Sr., Hoggard : Mason went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run as Hoggard defeated South Brunswick 6-2.

Braden Lanier, Sr., North Brunswick : Lanier scored one run and recorded one RBI while smashing a homer in the top of the second.

Softball

Kailynn Boepple, Jr., Laney : Boepple went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a home run as Laney defeated New Hanover 15-0.

Kina Davis, Jr., South Brunswick : Davis threw 12 strikeouts in seven innings pitched as the Cougars defeated Hoggard 1-0.

Shanley Hunt, Jr., North Brunswick: Hunt went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a double as the Scorpions defeated West Brunswick 12-2.

Boys lacrosse

Guillermo Quesada, Jr., Ashley : Quesada scored three goals and assisted on one more as the Screaming Eagles defeated West Brunswick 17-2.

Evan Loyd, Fr., Ashley: Loyd scored three goals and recorded one assist in the win.

Carter Warlick, Sr., Laney: Warlick scored six goals and assisted on three more as the Bucs defeated Marysville 21-1.

Noah Oborne, Soph., Laney: The sophomore scored four goals and dished out three assists in the win.

Conlan Kane, Soph., New Hanover: Kane scored three goals as New Hanover defeated North Brunswick 8-6.

Boys track and field

Cashmere James, Sr., New Hanover : James took first place in the 100, 200, and 400 meters in the New Hanover County track and field championship.

Noah Sandiford, Jr., Laney : Sandiford placed first in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles at the event.

Girls track and field

Makayla Grice, Sr., Ashley: Grice placed first in the 100 and 200 meters at the New Hanover County track and field championship.

Hannah Grace, Jr., Coastal Christian : Grace won the long and triple jumps and the pole vault at the event.

Tuesday

Baseball

Quinn Bentley, Jr., Ashley: Bentley went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles as the Screaming Eagles defeated New Hanover 11-1.

Cody Callahan, Sr., North Brunswick : Callahan threw eight strikeouts in 4 ⅔ innings pitched as North Brunswick defeated South Brunswick 6-4.

Trent Fowler, Soph., Laney : Fowler went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two doubles as Laney defeated West Brunswick 5-4.

Softball

Layla Carr, Jr., Laney: Carr went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a triple as the Buccaneers defeated West Brunswick 13-2.

Bailey Bettencourt, Jr., Laney: The junior went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run in the win.

Makenly Horrell, Soph., Laney: Horrell hit a home run in the win.

Kina Davis, Jr., South Brunswick: Davis went 2-for-5 with five RBIs and a home run while throwing 19 strikeouts in seven innings pitched as the Cougars defeated North Brunswick 13-0.

Savana Burgess, Soph., South Brunswick : Burgess went 3-for-3 with five RBIs, a double and a home run in the win.

Kennedy Sloan, Sr., Topsail: Sloan went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one double while throwing nine strikeouts as Topsail defeated Hoggard 8-3.

Rylee Reuter, Sr., Topsail : Reuter hit a home run in the win.

Macey Ciamillio, Jr., Hoggard: The junior hit a home run in the loss.

Girls soccer

Savannah Manset, Jr., Ashley: Manset scored two goals as Ashley defeated Hoggard 3-1.

Sadie Jones, Soph., West Brunswick : Jones scored two goals as the Trojans defeated New Hanover 3-2.

Kenya Lewis, Sr., Trask: Lewis scored three times as the Titans defeated Wallace-Rose Hill 4-1.

Boys lacrosse

Cooper Wert, Jr., Ashley: Wert scored five goals and dished out four assists as Ashley defeated Hoggard 16-5.

Peyton Ashley, Jr., Ashley: Ashley scored three goals and recorded one assist in the win.

Zaccori Stalls, Jr., Ashley : Stalls scored once and assisted on three goals in the win.

Carter Warlick, Sr., Laney: Warlick scored four goals as Ashley defeated South Brunswick 15-1.

Logan Shaw, Jr., Laney : Shaw scored twice and assisted on three more goals in the win.

Girls lacrosse

Kendall Blackburn, Fr., Ashley : Blackburn scored four goals and assisted on one more as Ashley defeated Hoggard 12-5.

Megan Howard, Soph., Ashley : Howard scored three goals and recorded one assist in the win.

Emma Johnson, Jr., Topsail: Johnson scored four goals as Topsail defeated North Brunswick 18-0.

Lindsay Cappiello, Soph., Topsail: The sophomore scored four goals and assisted on two more in the win.

Avery Leitner, Fr., Topsail: Leitner scored three goals and assisted one more in the win.

Morgan Hill, Jr., South Brunswick: Hill scored four goals as the Cougars fell to Laney 17-7.

Monday

Boys lacrosse

Zion Lee, Sr., Topsail: Lee scored three goals as the Pirates fell 9-6 to Apex Friendship.

Boys golf

Will Cherry, Soph., New Hanover : Cherry was the top medalist in Monday's MEC tournament at Lockwood Folly, shooting 72.

Maddux Cook, Jr., Hoggard: Cook shot 73 at the event, coming in second place.
