The Great Race is set to roll through town
MARIETTA, OH. (WTAP) - The Great Race is a controlled-speed endurance road rally on public highways, according to the event website. It states that it’s not about who can drive the fastest, instead if focuses on the driver’s ability to follow course instructions, and the car’s ability to endure the long trip.
Southwood Pool holds grand re-opening, slide not quite ready yet
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Thursday was the grand reopening for the Southwood Pool in southside Parkersburg. The pool was closed all last year for a $5 million renovation. It was free to get in and there were free snow cones, hot dogs, and a DJ. Some of the new features include fresh concrete decking, new fencing, improved lighting and more.
Picture This: Civitan Park pond repairs get underway
BELPRE — The city of Belpre began work in mid-May to repair and restore the Civitan Park Pond after years of leaks. The work is being funded by an Ohio Department of Development grant for $100,000 which the city received in early May. The city is also planning to replace the fountain which was once located in the middle. Officials hope to have the project completed by the end of June. (Photos by Art Smith)
Keep Parkersburg moving forward
A 100+ year old building cannot meet the needs of today. A dilapidated pavilion attracts homelessness and drug use. Likewise, a new pavilion is not an economic development vehicle to bolster existing businesses and should not be downtown or in a new location. It is a lifestyle improvement vehicle. It will enhance the use of the park and bring new vitality to it. Imagine trying to cook in a 100-year-old kitchen. Same for the 100-year-old pavilion.

ST. MARYS, W.Va. (WTAP) - The River and Rails Bass Festival is coming back to St. Marys for its 41st year. The festival begins Friday and will last through Sunday evening. According to president of the festival’s board of directors, Marissa Gutierrez, the event will include food trucks to satisfy a plethora of cuisines.

In following campaign rules, I am proud of running a fair and ethical race. Losing by 13 votes was not a loss with the third candidate votes. It shows the majority want a change.

VIENNA — Prominent sports figures from around the Mid-Ohio Valley gathered on Saturday at the Grand Pointe Convention Center to induct the class of 2024. The loaded class included Bryan Canterbury (Jackson County), Michael Cox (Pleasants County), Janet Frazier (Wirt County), H. Vienna mayoral candidate raises concerns about Jackson Park pool efforts
VIENNA — Vienna mayoral candidate Chad Emrick estimated the city of Vienna has spent $8.5 million to date on the Jackson Park pool at his town hall Thursday evening. Emrick said he submitted a Freedom of Information Act request regarding invoices and service orders for the pool and had all of those documents available for citizens to look at during the event.
DeWine requests federal help for Guernsey, other counties impacted by April storms
COLUMBUS — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden to support eight counties impacted by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes in early April, despite FEMA's assertion that damage does not reach the threshold for federal assistance, according to a news release from the governor's office.
Pressing Forward: Marietta building receives undisclosed amount of funding for facelift
MARIETTA — An historic building in Marietta recently received funding to redevelop it into office, retail and residential space. Ataraxia Properties Inc. received funding in late May from Appalachian Community Capital through its Opportunity Appalachia program for a project to renovate the Glass Press Building located in Marietta, according to Ataraxia President Grant Schneider.
