Lady Rangers crush Gilbert, drop pair to Chapmanville
CHAPMANVILLE – The Lenore Middle School softball team dropped its second straight game to Chapmanville as the Lady Rangers lost 10-3 on Tuesday night at CMS. Chapmanville led just 3-2 after one inning and 4-3 after three before breaking the game open with a four-spot in the fourth and then adding two more insurance runs in the sixth.
Williams signs with Morehead State
INEZ — Martin County Lady Cardinals star point guard Laken Williams has committed to advancing her basketball and academic career with the Morehead State Lady Eagles. Williams, who averaged 20.0 points per game this season and scored a total of 2,131 points over her four-year tenure at Martin County High School, solidifies her position as the leading scorer for the Lady Cardinals. Her contributions helped lead the team to back-to-back 57th District titles and three consecutive 20-win seasons.
Annaleigh Davis plays in Mountain Showcase
JENKINS — Martin County Middle School athlete Annaleigh Davis was chosen to participate in the D&D Sports Annual Mountain Showcase April 20. The top middle school players from the tri-state area received an invite to compete and display their skills in Jenkins in front of a large crowd. The seventh grader has been invited two years in a row to the event.
Cardinals swat Hornets 8-3
PHELPS — The Martin County Cardinals defeated Phelps 8-3 on the road April 23 for their 12th win of the season. Hunter Moore took the mound for the Martin County Cardinals and led the team to victory with a strong performance. Moore pitched four innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four and walking two. Knox Maynard relieved Moore in the top of the fifth inning, giving up one run on one hit, and recording five strikeouts and one walk.
