WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Fire departments responded to an apartment fire Friday morning in Wilkes-Barre that impacted eight residents.

Chief Jay Delaney of the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department says crews were called to the 120 block of Wood Street around 10:20 a.m.

Fire departments from Wilkes-Barre and Kingston arrived on the scene to see smoke coming from the 2nd floor of the complex.

Chief Delaney says seven adults and one child were impacted and the Red Cross was called for emergency housing for two of the adults and the child.

Delaney said they hope to get the building open as soon as possible so they don’t have to get emergency housing for anyone else.
