WICHITA COUNTY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A federal operation centered in the Wichita Falls area drew law enforcement agencies from multiple surrounding counties and towns to make over 20 narcotics arrests.

Early on Thursday morning, May 16, 2024, the multitude of agencies acted on several warrants across the Texoma area, arresting individuals who had been indicted by a federal grand jury in May.

A total of 22 defendants were indicted on federal crimes, including the distribution of narcotics, such as fentanyl, methamphetamines and cocaine.

Speaking during a press conference Thursday at the Wichita Falls Police Training Center, FBI Spokesman Geoff McGuire from Dallas said the operation was a success, resulting in multiple arrests for drug crimes in the Wichita County area.

“We will deploy our collective strength to ensure the safety and security of our neighborhoods and communities,” McGuire said. “Many of those charged today are facing significant federal sentences.”

WFPD Chief Manuel Borrego said 21 individuals were arrested during the operation. The majority of the arrests happened within Wichita Falls. The suspects are currently being held in the Wichita County Jail on a federal hold without bond.

The charges are federal charges that will be prosecuted in the Northern District U.S. Court.

Federal agencies involved include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshal Service and SWAT teams from several different FBI offices. Over 300 law enforcement personnel were involved in the investigation that lasted well over a year.

Federal agent McGuire said: “The criminal element doesn’t adhere to jurisdictional boundaries, and we can’t either.”
