WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — With summer on its way and temperatures rising, one local nonprofit is asking for help to keep it cool.

Meals on Wheels Wichita County (MOWWC) is holding a fan drive for the entire month of May to keep their clients cool this summer.

MOWWC’s Director of Development and Marketing Kristie Jones said making sure their clients don’t overheat is very important.

“With weather patterns changing, it’s going to be blazing hot,” Jones said. “Last year we recognized that so many of our clients that we deliver meals to were just sweltering in their homes.”

Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that provides food for as many as 750 clients each weekday, and Jones said they are asking the community for help in meeting this need for the community.

Jones said that basic box fans are some of the best fans to donate since they can be moved anywhere throughout a house, and they can function as a window unit.

Meals on Wheels is hoping to provide at least 100 fans to their clients for the year of 2024.

If you would like to help out and provide a fan, you can bring them to the Red Door at 1000 Burnett Street between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each weekday.

You can also donate money to Meals on Wheels directly so they can buy fans for clients as needed. Jones estimates that each fan costs $26. Donate online here.
