Local creator hopes to open bookshop in Kensington Valley Outlets

A prospective local business owner is eyeing a storefront for books at Kensington Valley Outlets . Hannah Sanchez hopes to raise $38,000 via Kickstarter to open Bumblebee Books in the former Francesca's at 1475 N. Burkhart Road. The campaign offers exclusive rewards for contributors, Sanchez told The Daily. The fundraiser will launch Nov. 7, the same day Sanchez is hosting a pop-up adult romance book fair in the space near Howell. The event invites readers to meet romance authors, purchase signed books and discover new reads 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sanchez said her campaign is all-or-nothing, with an end date Dec. 12. The money would cover the store's buildout and initial inventory, with a possible soft opening in March. Stinson: What Happened to the Company Built by a Pilot Who Logged Over 16,000 Flight Hours

In 1920, aviator Edward Stinson, also the brother of aviator Katherine Stinson, founded the Stinson Aircraft Company in Dayton, Ohio. After five years, Stinson moved his focus to Detroit, Michigan, for his future aviation projects. At the same time, he worked as a stunt pilot and earned $100,000 a year, which was a large amount at the time. He discovered that Detroit’s business community was open to his idea of developing his own airplane. Supported by Alfred V. Verville and local businessmen, members of the Aviation Committee of the Detroit Board of Commerce, Stinson set up the Stinson Aircraft Syndicate in 1925. The committee provided $25,000 to design and build a prototype. This prototype was a biplane with an enclosed cockpit that could carry four passengers and was powered by a Whirlwind J-4 air-cooled radial engine. The test flights took place at Packard Field in Roseville, Michigan, a suburb northeast of Detroit. The Stinson Detroiter SB-1 first flew from Packard Field on January 25, 1926. The airplane was unusual for the time, with an enclosed cabin. It was also equipped with heat, upholstered seats, and an electric cigar lighter, making it comfortable for passengers during cold Michigan winters. The plane became popular, and in February, Stinson offered flights to 70 riders.

Homebuyer Education Classes, Required for Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Loan Program, Now Available for Free at Gesher Human Services

Gesher Human Services , one of the largest human service agencies in metro Detroit, is offering Homebuyer Education Classes twice a month through the end of January. While the four-hour classes typically cost $50 for a family, this season the fees are being waived, to remove one extra barrier to families getting into a home that they can own. Such classes are a requirement for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), Down Payment Assistance Program which provides $7,500-10,000 loans to families with limited incomes hoping to purchase a home. A report by Patch in October suggested the Michigan housing market is showing signs of shifting toward buyers, giving buyers more negotiating power than sellers. Experts believe this is because there are fewer buyers than normal because some have been priced out of the market, and others are worried because of economic uncertainty. Several of the closing announcements brought diners and customers out in droves for one last taste, slice or sip. On the October list of closings is the last location of the Sign of the Beefcarver in Royal Oak, Capri Italian Bakery in Dearborn and Perry’s Pizza in Clawson – all in business for decades.
