Governor appoints Wakefield man to Ski Area Safety Board
Undated - Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed a Wakefield man to the state’s Ski Area Safety Board. Benjamin Bartz is the chief of mountain operations at Midwest Family Ski Resorts. He received an associate’s degree in ski area management from Gogebic Community College and a bachelor's degree in ski area management from Northern Michigan University. Bartz is appointed to represent U-P Ski Area Managers for a term starting June-9th and expiring June-8th of 2028. Bartz succeeds Samuel Bracket, who has resigned.

Summer road repairs begin in four Michigan counties
(The Center Square) – The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin four new road repair projects this week in Dickinson, Jackson, Marquette and Ontonagon counties. Registration open for 27th Annual Matt Ahonen Memorial Softball Tournament
WAKFIELD, Mich. (WJMN) – For nearly three decades, the town of Wakefield has hosted an annual softball tournament to kick off their Fourth of July weekend. “This tournament was actually run in Wakefield by Gabby’s Bar,” said Tom Ahonen, one of the event organizers. “The owner of the bar was Dennis Brunelle. He ran the tournament for many, many years.”
