Four financially distressed UP communities to receive grants from state program
Undated - Four U-P municipalities are getting money from the state’s Financially Distressed Cities, Villages and Townships Grant Program. Cities, villages, and townships can participate if they experience one or more conditions of ‘probable financial distress.’ The grants fund programs, services, or enhancements that move the municipality toward financial stability. The Village of Calumet is getting nearly 571-thousand dollars for infrastructure replacement at the public works building and village hall…Gaastra (GAS’-truh) will receive 59-thousand dollars to upgrade technology equipment and software… The Village of Laurium is getting 250-thousand to replace a fire equipment truck… and Ontonagon is getting more than 149-thousand dollars to purchase a backhoe and motor grader.

Feeding America prepares for distribution events in 2 U.P. counties on Wednesday
UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. (WLUC) - Despite Wednesday’s snowstorm, Feeding America West Michigan is moving ahead with food distribution plans in multiple UP counties. The first event is in Schoolcraft County and is located at the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique. Food distribution is scheduled to run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Eastern time. Feeding America West Michigan said they have 250 food boxes to give away and will do free deliveries for residents of the area who call Jessica Whitmer, Patient Navigator at 906-341-3750 by 1:00 p.m.

Snowy Easter Egg Hunts in Copper Country: Quincy Green and Village Park Await!
With the recent blanket of snow on the ground the Easter bunny will have plenty of hiding places for eggs tomorrow. Easter weekend in the copper country might be a little cold and snowy but that won’t keep the region from celebrating. Tomorrow there are two Easter egg hunts planned for the community’s kids taking place in Hancock and Lake Linden. Hancock city manager Mary Babcock says that last year the city was overwhelmed by the community response to an Easter egg hunt. In hopes of keeping the event under a bit more control, the city has worked with the Easter bunny to bring more eggs to Quincy Green and will have kids of different ages start at staggered times. Then in Lake Linden the township Downtown Development Authority will host the Easter egg hunt in the Village Park. Both easter egg hunts will begin at 11 am tomorrow.
