    WMVFS Food Truck Tuesdays

    Spend the day with neighbors and support the White Marsh Volunteer Fire — EMS. Food, drinks, dessert and live music will be available at “Food Truck Tuesdays” events every Tuesday through August 27, 2024. Food trucks rotate weekly and include local favorites like Once Upon a Potato, Farm to Fork, Don’s Dogs, Mr. Souvlaki, Conrad’s, Jimmy’s Seafood, Miss Twist, Kona Ice, Love Pudding and more. Proceeds from alcohol and soda sales at Food Truck Tuesdays directly support White Marsh Volunteer Fire — EMS, allowing the organization to keep the station running smoothly and efficiently to serve the community. Festivities will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday, and will be held rain or shine. White Marsh Volunteer Fire — EMS is located at 10331 Philadelphia Road in White Marsh.

    BCPS Film Expo

    Baltimore County Public Schools’ annual Film Expo will be held on May 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Senator Theatre at 5904 York Road in Baltimore. All middle school and high school students are welcome to enter. More information can be found on the BCPS Film Expo Schoology Group (Access Code: 7CC62-C8M8K) or the Film Expo website (https://filmexpo.bcps.org/) for more details. Films selected as finalists will be shown during the expo. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free annual Film Expo event. At the conclusion of the event, both the finalist filmmakers and the winning poster designers will be honored.

    Stansbury Park Cleanup

    As part of National Kids to Parks Day, please help Clean Bread and Cheese Creek, Inc. clean up Stansbury Park and its Bear Creek shoreline. This event is scheduled for May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All ages and abilities are welcome, and community service and service learning hours are available. We believe everyone should have a safe place to play and enjoy nature. Registration will be at the park’s Pavilion Area located at 7800 Stansbury Road in Dundalk. This Project Clean Stream event is supported by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Gloves, bags, water and snacks provided. Limited number of tools available for loan.     Family Fest at 43

    Great Saturday fun awaits. The Back River Restoration Committee will join the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce to host the

    “Family Fest @ 43,” an event featuring fresh family fun and entertainment. Enjoy a celebration of more than 50 exhibitors, a kids zone including Ms. Dee the Clown, Live Butterfly Exhibit, Martial Arts & Dance Shows. A beer and wine garden will be included along with plenty of convenient free parking. This free, family-friendly event will be held on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Event will be held rain or shine.     ”Farewell to Golden Ring Middle School”

    Join BCPS in officially bidding a farewell to Golden Ring Middle School on May 17 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. This event will be at the school’s campus located at 6700 Kenwood Ave. in Rosedale. In May 2023, the Board of Education of Baltimore County voted to close Golden Ring Middle School at the end of the 2023-2024 academic school year. During this farewell event, the Golden Ring Middle School community will celebrate the school’s history and impact, The event will include school tours, commemorative T-shirts, music, games, displays of student artwork and other projects, free summer reading books, a BCPS resource session, archived yearbooks and treasures and community partners including the Volunteer Fire Department, Rosedale branch of Baltimore County Public Library, and the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. Registration is required.

    Awards for Excellence in Education

    To culminate the 2023-24 school year, the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce will honor outstanding local teachers and support professionals. BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers and CCBC President Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis will speak. Registration is required. The Awards for Excellence is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, from 6-8 p.m. at CCBC-Essex’s Romadka College Center.

    Sandalwood Elementary “Spring Fling”

    Join your Essex family for a gathering to celebrate our amazing community as Sandalwood Elementary School and Deep Creek Middle School present this year’s Spring Fling. There will be student performances, free hot dogs, a resource fair, outdoor games, crafts and so much more. This event is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, from 5-6:30 p.m. on Sandalwood’s parking lot (900 S. Marlyn Ave. in Essex).

    BCPL Summer Reading Challenge

    Saturday, June 1, to Saturday, Aug. 31

    Explore the wonderful world of books with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” Children of all ages can join the challenge and log their reading on Beanstack or a paper game board. Read for 10 hours to pick up a completion prize and enter in prize drawings. Join BCPL for the start of Summer Reading on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cockeysville Branch, with a fun day of performances, activities and giveaways.     Summer Meal Distribution

    Thursday, June 20, to Friday, Aug. 16

    Provided by Baltimore County Public Schools and USDA Summer Food Service Program, meals are available Monday through Friday and must be eaten in the branch. Meals will be served at the following locations (within the Essex vicinity) and times:

    Essex: 12:30 — 1:30 p.m.North Point: 12:30 — 1:30 p.m.Parkville-Carney: 12:30 — 1:30 p.m.Perry Hall: noon — 1 p.m.Rosedale: noon — 1 p.m.White Marsh: noon — 1 p.m.

    Please note that the lunch program is for youth 18 years old and under and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Meals must be eaten at the branch. The lunch program cannot accommodate groups, such as camps, childcare centers, etc.

    13th Annual BRRC Golf Tournament

    The Back River Restoration Committee is preparing for its yearly golf tournament fundraiser, scheduled for June 28 at Rocky Point Golf Course in Essex. Registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. and shotgun will begin at 8 a.m. Individuals may register for $125 and four-person teams may register for $500. There will be prizes, an award ceremony, a luncheon and more activities as BRRC prepares for one of its most notable events of the year. Additional details are available at www.savebackriver.org.
