New Principals Named for Three Sumner County Schools
Dr. Scott Langford, Sumner County Director of Schools, recently announced three new principals for the upcoming school year. Jackson Howell has been named the principal of Middle Technical College High School at Portland. Mr. Howell has previously served as the principal of Portland East Middle for the past 13 years. Mr. Howell is replacing Emily Goddard, who has accepted a position with the district TeachSumner program.

Springfield Tourism Unveils New Mural
Work is complete on the latest addition to the Springfield Greenway at the Memorial Boulevard overpass: a new art installation crafted by Tennessee artist Tracee Badway. The colorful mural design incorporates state symbols, agricultural components, landscape, points of interest in the city, and our city’s date of incorporation. This beautification project is made possible in part by a Tennessee Arts Commission Rural Arts Project Support (RAPS) grant in the amount of $11,300 and a Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Marketing Grant in the amount of $8,350.
Springfield Gas Begins Its Annual Leak Survey
The Springfield Gas Department has begun its annual leak survey. The annual leak survey began on Monday, May 6, 2024. The Springfield Gas Department will be conducting a quality control survey of the natural gas system to ensure public safety and the proper operation of the gas lines and meters. Gas mains and business districts are surveyed annually and customer services are surveyed once every five years. This is part of a routine safety practice required by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
