WHITE HALL, W.Va. (WBOY) — A black bear was caught on camera over the weekend, running around in the streets of White Hall in Marion County.

A video captured by Haleigh Jones shows the bear running across Middletown Road (County Route 73) about half a mile from U.S. 250 (White Hall Blvd) and Middletown Commons. Jones said that she spotted the bear at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

Although bears are most common in West Virginia’s mountain counties, they are found in all 55 counties and are even known to live near the state’s larger cities .

Bear encounters in West Virginia are most likely between May and August, although they are sometimes spotted in the earlier spring and winter as well, according to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

Last year, a bear cub was captured by a security camera in White Hall in February .
