Between the lacrosse field, tennis court, baseball and softball diamond, there will be Western Massachusetts athletes competing for state championships on Saturday. The day will start with baseball and boys lacrosse, with Pittsfield playing against Seekonk in the Division IV baseball title game, and the Longmeadow boys lacrosse team playing Marshfield in the Div. II title game.

AMHERST – The Walpole High School softball team’s only loss off the season came against No. 5 Milton, 4-3, on April 10. Milton (18-4) was upset by No. 21 Notre Dame, of Hingham (13-8) in just their second state tournament game, 8-7. Notre Dame fell to Westfield (20-4) in the quarterfinals, 5-1. It should come as no surprise then that the final game was decided by just one run.
