Letters: Public pickleball courts are apparently not a thing in West Palm Beach

    West Palm Beach falling behind

As featured in last Sunday's Palm Beach Post, pickleball is alive and growing everywhere but West Palm Beach. It seems to me that the city is closing its eyes to what our neighboring municipalities are doing to foster outdoor activities. Every other Palm Beach County municipality is growing their public sports offerings. Other municipalities have movie theaters, West Palm Beach sold out the only theater to Related Cos. The Carefree Theater project doesn’t quite meet the need. Boca Raton has five movie theaters.

Once you go south of the Norton Museum, there are no crosswalks. As Dixie Highway traffic continues to increase in number and speed, I would like to see the WPB government show some compassion for those of us trying to cross the street. Crosswalks are desperately needed to keep everyone safe when walking to the abundance of restaurants and shops along Dixie Highway. Look to the needs of the constituents, the character of the architecture and not so much to the needs of more high rises.

    Term-limit the Supreme Court

With age being an issue on the presidential ballot this year, we have to address the U.S. Supreme Court and it's latest hearing and arguments on the Trump immunity claim. I was astounded when Justice Samuel Alito argued that we should not hold a president who leaves office accountable for crimes committed while they were in office because that would encourage the sitting president not to leave office. He also opined that a grand jury could indict a ham sandwich, thereby making the case that you should not trust the legal system in this country for which he sits on the highest court of the land. That was the moment I realized that it's time to create age and term limits on the Supreme Court. Truly this is the moment in Alito’s life for the kids to take the car keys away from him.

GOP has plans; America better know it

Project 2025, the  920-page, right-wing, comprehensive, transition plan, should have everyone taking notice. Starting with replacing federal employees with loyalty tested sycophants; eliminating the EPA to stifle climate change legislation; eliminating the Department of Education and others; turning the DOJ into a retribution cudgel against perceived enemies; using Christianity and a biblical worldview as the driving force behind federal law thus trampling the constitutionally mandated separation of church and state; enacting a national abortion ban; eliminating federal protections for marginalized communities; promoting isolationist immigration policy curtailing the availability of much needed workers and professionals; phasing out “entitlement programs “ such as Social Security and Medicare, etc. An apathetic, uninformed electorate is the only way this plan will succeed. Educate yourself and vote.
