LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Indiana School Boards Association recognized the Lafayette and West Lafayette school boards with an exemplary governance award for their leadership during the 2023 calendar year according to a press release from both school districts.

The Indiana School Boards Association determines a school board’s eligibility for awards based on points earned by members' attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences and other learning events put on by the state's association.

This year 105 school boards received awards from the exemplary governance awards program.

“I would like to commend this most exceptional group of school boards and school board members,” Terry Spradlin, executive director of the Indiana School Boards Association, said in the press release. “School boards perform a vital public service for their communities, and board members who actively participate in professional learning are better equipped to perform their duties effectively and meet the needs of their students.”

The state association also offers individual exemplary governance awards amongst the 270 eligible school board members.

Four West Lafayette's board members received awards. Laurence Wang and Dacia Mumford both received the commendable award. Amy Austin received the advanced award, and Rachel Witt received the distinguished award.

Honorees will be formally recognized at the Indiana School Boards Association’s spring regional meetings later this month.
