Bus driver and one student were sent to the hospital after a Bus crashed on a highway
Mt. Vernon, MO – A school bus carrying the Mount Vernon Missouri baseball team, was involved in an accident around 8:30 last night in newton county. The driver experienced a medical emergency on Missouri Highway 43 south of Petro. The bus was traveling at highway speed, went off the road, and hit a culvert. One student was taken to a Joplin hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was taken to a hospital by private vehicle.

Carthage councilwoman publicly confronts resident who asked for her resignation
CARTHAGE, Mo. — A public confrontation involving Carthage City Councilmember, Jana Schramm was caught on camera outside Carthage City Hall following a city council meeting. The argument stemmed from what took place during the council meeting. Speaking during the public comments portion of the meeting, former Carthage councilmember, T.J. Teed asked for the resignation of councilmember Schramm and fellow councilmember, Tiffany Cossey.

Lawrence and Barry County Democrats will meet on May 23 at the Angus Branch Steakhouse, located at 114 Chapel Drive in Monett. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Those wishing to eat should arrive by 5:305:45 p.m., with each responsible for their own meal expense. Guest speakers will include two area candidates for State Representative: Jeremy Dean from the 132nd in Springfield, and Rebecca Jensen, from the 160th District in Newton County. The group also hopes to have Yma Sautbine from the 158th District in Barry County. There will be reports from the group’s two scholarship award presentations, and discussion on fundraising events for Missi Hesketh in the U.S. 7th District Congressional race.
