Angelina College mascot state taken down for updates, enhancements
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The Angelina College Roadrunner statue is gone. It’ll be back, though, once it gets some “necessary enhancements” that “maintain its iconic look.” Angelina College officials said in a Friday press release that the decision to update the state was made to “ensure that it continues to embody the energy and enthusiasm that define our college community.” The statue was sculpted by I.W. “Buckshot” Ferguson and unveiled on September 13, 1982.
Nacogdoches elementary school teacher accused of injuring student
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches ISD teacher has been arrested and fired after accusations surfaced that they had physically injured a student. According to an arrest affidavit, Nacogdoches ISD police officers were notified about an incident that took place at Mike Moses Elementary on May 9. Video footage is said show Ronald Watson, 60, of Nacogdoches bumping into a student, allegedly causing pain to her ribs.
Louisville lands commitment from Stephen F. Austin transfer DL Brandon Lane
The University of Louisville football staff has added another commitment from the transfer portal. Stephen F. Austin defensive lineman Brandon Lane, who made an unofficial visit to U of L this weekend, has committed to the Cardinals. Lane is the 28th prospect out of the transfer portal that will be part of the roster in fall camp, including seven at the defensive line or edge positions.

BATON ROUGE, La. (KLTV) - Former Nacogdoches Dragon Will Furniss had a hit and a RBI on Saturday as the Ole Miss Rebels fell to LSU 9-3. The sophomore batted fourth and started at first base. LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Phone calls and personal inquiries this past week have been a lot about that “big woolly caterpillar” that has been seen “everywhere.”. The caterpillar being reported to me most often is a Salt Marsh caterpillar that will soon become a Salt Marsh moth. The caterpillars are larvae of a moth in the family Arctiidae. This species has many color variations from black with orangish-red markings to pale yellow to reddish-brown. Caterpillars are generally lighter in color and darken with age. The body is covered with tufted hairs, or setae.
