Very hot again today with a chance for afternoon rain
East Texas (KLTV/KTRE) - Good morning, East Texas! We’ve got another hot day on tap with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 100s. Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect through this evening as heat indices (feels like temps) will reach or exceed 105° at times. Please make sure you are taking care of yourselves in this heat, and if you’ve got any kiddos heading to school or practice, make sure they are drinking lots of water throughout the day. Lower humidity in the afternoon and ample supply of fuels like dry grasses and brush will bring an elevated fire threat today. Please do not do any outdoor burning and report any smoke or fire immediately so local fire crews can get ahead of these grass fires before they get too big. The good news is that there will be the chance for a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms this afternoon with some limited rains potentially continuing overnight into early tomorrow morning. Coverage will not be widespread, so count yourself lucky if you happen to get a little bit of rain! Limited rain chances will remain a possibility over the weekend but expect very hot temperatures to continue for any areas that remain dry. Triple digits are likely to continue into next week with highs in the lower 100s through Wednesday, though we may finally see highs “only” climb into the upper 90s by the next of next week.
