WELCH, WV (WVNS) – Cathy Jack is a name known far and wide around Mount View High school. The teacher with 42 years of experience is known for her dedication, hard work, and love for her career.

A friend of Jack encouraged her to enter an online poll called “America’s Favorite Teacher.” Friends, family, and former students can visit the website to vote for their favorite teacher.

It is no surprise that Jack rose through the ranks just 5 hours before the first round of voting ended. One of many people who is far from surprised is the Principal of Mount View High School Tim Kennedy.

“How awesome would that be for someone in our area to be able to win that? Not just from that standpoint, but she deserves it; she’s amazing at what she does and I’m so proud of her,” said Kennedy.

Jack is not only a special education teacher – she also has her hands in some of the biggest school events! This includes being a coach for the high school’s cheerleading squad.

Her students at Mount View could not say kinder things about Jack.

“She deserves this award because she has done so much in her career to help make sure that the school succeeds,” said Alonah Baker, a junior at Mount View.

“I just think she deserves it. She’s just really passionate about her job, takes care of everything, and makes sure things get done,” said Drayvin Waddell, a senior at Mount View.

Jack has collected numerous awards and recognition from her teaching career – including winning Teacher of the Year 5 times.

Jack said she feels so humbled and grateful for the community that has voted for her so far.

“I love my job, I love my kids, and I love this school. This school is my heart. Anything that is a positive for us, I’m all for it,” said Jack.

There are less than eight days left of the semi-finales for voting. Currently, Jack sits at 1st place in her group. If she wins, she will receive $25,000, which she says she will use to make repairs on her home, donate to her church, and possibly treat herself to a small trip.

Voting is free and the website can be found here .
