Davisville, Aug. 10, 2026: Changes coming downtown, especially if you drive
People who drive downtown will see some changes starting in September. The immediate change is the switch to paid parking in three central parking lots with about 330 spaces. The change that will take awhile to show up is the impact of approximately 340 new apartments planned along G Street, mostly without space for parking (the photo shows the demolition in progress on Aug. 5 of a former Davis Ace building, where some of the new apartments will be built). If the renters don’t bring cars, then this change should add more life to downtown without amping up the competition for a place to park. If.

Midtown business owners are pushing back, warning that the longer paid window could make customers think twice about dinner, drinks and errands in the central city. For workers who already pay to park during the day, the change also stretches the bill into the hours when shifts are winding down.

Fruitridge Road walker and bicyclist collisions
For other posts on Fruitridge Road, see category: Fruitridge Road. In my main post on the Fruitridge Road Safety and Mobility Plan, I used the collisions map from the existing conditions report. On further reflection, I should have also used the Bicycle and Pedestrian KSI map, below. KSI is ‘killed or severely injured’, so addresses more serious collisions, and not the abundant but less severe collisions that occur on Fruitridge.
