Man injured after explosion in Metro Detroit home
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - A man was seriously injured on Wednesday after an explosion inside his home in Sterling Heights.Police responded to a home on Canal Road, where they said a man was working on something in his home when the explosion happened.The cause of the explosion and what the man was working on is unknown.Michigan State Police's bomb squad responded to the scene for further investigation.Police did not release any further information.
Another 80-degree day on the way soon for some Michigan cities
Very warm air is heading our way ahead of a line of thunderstorms. Friday will have a good chance for some of us to hit 80 degrees. We can’t say it’s the first 80-degree day for many because last Saturday, April 27 hit 80 degrees or warmer for most of the south-central and southeast Lower Michigan cities. Ann Arbor even recorded an 89-degree high temperature.

Redford man found dead at Southfield building fire where car struck wall
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (FOX 2) - A commercial building fire is being investigated by Southfield police after first responders found a body at the scene. Another factor in the deadly accident was a vehicle that had struck the building, located at 27050 West Eight Mile in Southfield, which is a mile east of Grand River Avenue.
Residents impacted by August 2023 storm in SE Michigan have 1 week left to apply for federal assistance
(CBS DETROIT) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency says Metro Detroit residents who were impacted by the severe storm in August 2023 have one more week to apply for federal assistance.CBS News Detroit is getting some numbers from FEMA on the amount of federal assistance provided thus far after devastating storms caused flooding and even tornadoes in some areas:Macomb County - $16,374,411.14Monroe County - $2,706,450.02Oakland County - $17,896,791.57Wayne County - $254,551,658.90Some families, like the Blandino family in Chesterfield Township, have been repairing for months now, and Jessica Blandino is finally starting to see her basement come together."It's very just calming to have a spot," she said.It was a spot that was once flooded with over 5 feet of water."Now, to see it drywalled and painted, and it looks like a spot in the basement that wasn't ruined, it feels more like a home again, which is nice," said Blandino.Aside from additional laying of carpet, getting a cover that opens and closes for the egress window is up next."If water is coming down on it, it shouldn't allow the water to get into the hole to push the window in again like it did the last time," Blandino said.
Detroit man sentenced to prison in 2021 shooting death of woman
(CBS DETROIT) - A Detroit man was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison for the 2021 shooting death of a woman following a vehicle crash, the Michigan Attorney General's office announced.Riondre Griffin, 21, was convicted of one count of second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle and felony firearm. Griffin received a two- to five-year sentence for the carrying a concealed weapon charge.State officials say on Nov. 7, 2021, Griffin fatally shot the woman after intentionally crashing into her car. The woman got out to check on her car when Griffin demanded money for the damages. The woman then refused and drove away. Griffin, who was driving a pickup with two other men inside, pulled alongside her and shot her four times."A young woman's life was tragically cut short by meaningless, senseless violence," Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement. "I hope this sentence offers a sense of closure and justice for her loved ones."

A patient fired a gun at an employee at Detroit-based DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital before turning the gun on himself, Fox2 reported April 28.
