American Legion hosts students for county government forum

Area middle school students attended the 55th annual Dane County Youth Day hosted by the American Legion Dane County Council at the William Lansing Post 360 in Waunakee April 18.

After an introduction by County Youth Chairperson Shirley Kubiak of Waunakee, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi spoke a bit about his role in county government then asked students about their concerns. Among the issues students cited were climate change and pollution, racial equity and police brutality.

The students then heard from Joleen Stinson, the county's parks and recreation director, before a short break. Ely Moyer, UW-Extension Youth and Government, then spoke, followed by representatives from the Dane County American Legion and Auxiliary, and a presentations from Dane County deputies and the sheriff.
