KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A blast of cold air moving across West Michigan is expected to trigger lake-effect snow showers that may leave several inches on the ground by Tuesday afternoon. Mattawan remembers fallen firefighter
On Wednesday night, Nov. 22, at the Van Buren County Courthouse, family, friends, and members of the Mattawan Fire District gathered on the north lawn of the courthouse to remember Mattawan Fire District fallen firefighter Nathan Fruin. Fruin passed away Feb. 26, 2013, in the line of duty. His name was placed on a marker in “Recognition of dedicated Public Safety Personnel for the Ultimate Sacrifice to our Community.” Mattawan Fire District Fire Chief Scott Brooks, shown at far right, and Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott each spoke during the ceremony.
