    Person rescued from Waterbury house fire

    WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – One person had to be rescued from a house fire on Hillside Avenue in Waterbury early Saturday afternoon.

    A fire department spokesperson says firefighters were called to the 2 family home at 12:13 p.m. and upon arrival had to rescue a homeless person from a second floor window by ladder. The person was walking when brought to the ground but then take to St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation.

    At one point a second alarm was called in and half of the 2.5 story house was heavily damaged. Firefighters were ordered out and had to go into defensive mode. They left the scene around 5 p.m.

    The Fire Marshall is investigating but due to the extent of damage was not able to enter the house.
