Scientists Sealed Princeton Students In Total Darkness For 4 Days. They Didn't Expect What Happened Next

In the 1950s and 1960s, researchers at various institutions carried out experiments aimed at finding out how people were affected by social isolation and sensory deprivation. One experiment at Princeton University had student volunteers spend four days in total darkness, and while some of the participants experienced hallucinations, the researchers were surprised by the type and frequency of hallucinations and unexpected changes in motor skills, working memory, and sensation.

Well, we'll keep trying. The last time we did the Bucks County area big-school football rankings two weeks ago, we trumpeted the fact that we had the same No. 1 team, Pennridge, in back-to-back rankings for the first time all season. Now, again, we don't. The Rams lost for the first time last week, 21-14, to surging Central Bucks South . So, does that put the Titans on top of our list? No? It's 9-1 Central Bucks West , who beat the Titans when they played, taking over as our top dog. (Whether the Bucks want this designation after we've had so many No. 1s come and go is another story). Regardless, we head to the postseason with a reshuffled rankings (for teams in Class 4A, 5A and 6A), but it kind of makes it fun (I guess). Our small-school rankings , for teams in Class 3A, 2A and A, will be out next week. Let's go: 1. Central Bucks West (9-1) Since losing to Pennridge 14-7 in the final seconds of their Week Four matchup, the Bucks have outscored their last six opponents (including CB South, CB East and North Penn), 233-68, or an average of 39-11 per game.

As of Nov. 4, 2026, Drew University has announced that there will be a tuition freeze for all undergraduate students during the 2027-2028 school year. A tuition freeze occurs when a university decides to maintain the cost of tuition for a set amount of time, rather than increasing it as the cost of living also increases. TIME names the top colleges in New York

Columbia University and Cornell University ranked among the nation's best colleges in TIME Magazine's Best Colleges rankings, released last month. TIME partnered with data research firm Statista for its inaugural report of America’s Best Colleges of 2026-2027 , which ranked colleges that "excel at student outcomes, learning environment and attractiveness to students," according to the publication. Schools with historically strong STEM programs ranked high on the list, including the top two universities: Stanford University (No. 1), known for its startup culture and connection to Silicon Valley, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No. 2), a patent powerhouse, according to TIME. New York's highest-ranked university, Columbia University in New York City, is best known for its Core Curriculum and strength in the humanities and social sciences, including its graduate programs in journalism, business, law and international affairs, according to Oriel Admissions. Cornell University in Ithaca is known for its focus on engineering, agriculture and life sciences, as well as hotel administration. Although Cornell, like Columbia, is an Ivy League school, some of its colleges are state-supported contract colleges , which offer lower tuition to New York residents. Other Cornell colleges are endowed and rely on private support, according to the university.
