ROME — Rome Mayor Jeffrey M. Lanigan and Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced new updates in Rome’s tornado recovery efforts at City Hall on Friday. They said the clean-up will take several weeks, and all city streets have been reopened except for the blocks in front of the damaged churches. They said they have given out $140,000 to more than 30 businesses from the Rome Emergency Business Fund, and just short of $750,000 from the Rome Victims Recovery Fund to roughly 279 residents so far. “We have a great community that has truly stepped up,” said Lanigan. “We’re going to keep moving forward, and I promise you we’re not slowing down.”

Utica man sentenced to 10+ years prison for drug and firearm possession
UTICA, N.Y. — A man in Utica was sentenced to 130 months of federal prison for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm. Carlos Pena Uceta, 24, admitted to having more than five kilograms of cocaine purchased from New York City and transporting it back to the Northern District of New York.
