WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Residents spotted a black bear roaming through their Northeast D.C. neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

One D.C. resident posted on the X platform that she was walking near 14th and Newtown Streets in Brookland just before 7 a.m. when she saw a “furry” figure – that she thought was a dog -running around the neighborhood.

She approached the animal and quickly realized it was a bear.

“There was a bear coming through our yard,” said Melinda Warner, who saw the animal from inside her home along Otis Street NE.

“He came through the side yard and up the stairs and then over to where I’m standing,” Warner continued.

She and her husband, James, managed to take a couple of pictures of the bear before it left.

“They’re [bears] amazing. And it was in our backyard,” said Horner, the CEO of City State Brewing Company. “I mean, they’re one of the most, enchanting creatures on the planet.”

In an update on Wednesday afternoon, officials said they believed the same bear was again spotted in Hyattsville, Md.
