WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — “April showers bring May flowers” – and that is especially true at the U.S. Botanic Garden in D.C.

“Spring has arrived and it is here in full force,’ said Devin Dotson, Senior Communications Specialist at the United States Botanic Garden. “There are thousands and thousands of blooms throughout the garden both in the conservatory but especially outdoors.”

Dotson says the U.S. Botanic Garden is a great place to check out all of the spring blooms. He says the tulips are getting a lot of attention these days.

“Our gardeners planted more than 30,000 tulip bulbs last fall and they are just glorious in bloom throughout the gardens,” he said.

Another special flower is also about to bloom: the second corpse flower of the year. Dotson says it will be on display in the conservatory.

The Botanic Garden also has several programs and activities that families can participate in, including a kids’ garden.

“Additional opportunities for the kids to dig, plant some plants, play in the dirt and enjoy gardening from their side of things,” said Dotson.

The U.S. Botanic Garden is free to visit and open every day except Christmas from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The outdoor garden is open from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.
