WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Delays are expected on West Shore Road on Thursday due to a water main break.

Mayor Frank Picozzi said on social media that traffic will likely be detoured as a result, and residents should seek an alternate route.

The mayor called the situation a “very unfortunate occurrence,” saying that the forced main was scheduled to be redone beginning this summer.

Sewer infrastructure in Warwick had been ignored for a long time, Picozzi said, but improvements have been made over the past three years due to funding from a federal grant.

Crews working on the repairs overnight were unable to complete them, causing the delays this morning.
