WARSAW − River View Black Bear Fest will be Saturday, with activities and open houses at River View Elementary and River View Intermediate schools from 9 to 11 a.m.

Activities at River View High School will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those include displays of students' work, Scholastic Book Fair, petting zoo, plant sale, archery trailer, inflatables, a vendor fair with 40 local vendors, food trucks, first responder touch-a-truck, face painting, basket raffle and more. Attendees will receive a map of where activities are at and there will be volunteers to help guide the way and answer questions.

Also happening on the day will be varsity and junior varsity baseball games against Newcomerstown and an invitational MVL track meet.

Black Bear Fest started in 2008 and was discontinued at one point, before coming back in 2022 as an event every two years. Superintendent Chuck Rinkes said the last festival had a record attendance.

Renee Anderson, secretary to the superintendent, said previous Superintendent Kyle Kanuckel and the board at that time wanted to do something that would engage the community and give back to it.

"It's a day to come out to celebrate what River View is all about. Whether you live in our community of the River View district, you know somebody who goes to River View, anybody is welcome to come out," Anderson said.
