McMinnville resident and Warren County native Gary Frank Powell, 71, was born April 1, 1952 and died May 23, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired forklift driver with Yorozu, he was the son of the late Frank Warner and Dorotha Louise Mullican Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Crim and Tommy Powell and sister, Patty Hobbs.

TDOE Releases 2023 TCAP District-Level Averages for 3rd Grade ELA
The Tennessee Department of Education has released district-level TCAP average scores for third grade English Language Arts (ELA) from the spring 2023 TCAP administration. In Cumberland County, 34.42 percent of third grade students Meet or Exceed proficiency to be promoted to the fourth grade. The report shows 29.45 percent of Cumberland County third graders scored Below and 36.14 percent scored Approaching.

Auburntown resident and Warren County native Linda Carol Mathews, 76, was born Dec. 6, 1946 and died May 24, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness. A housewife and a member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Charles Rayford and Edna Gustov Wilson Farless, Jr. She was married to Larry G. Mathews who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by son, Charles Raymond Baldwin, Jr.
