Memorial Day 2024: Local post honors those who have fallen
KING — American Legion Post #290 and the Stokes County Arts Council joined forces on Sunday, May 26, to pay tribute to those who died serving the country in honor of Memorial Day. The service was held at the Veterans Memorial at King Central Park on Kirby Road in King. The local American Legion Honor Guard bookended the ceremony, opening with the post colors and closing with a 21 gun volley and the playing of "Taps." North Carolina Legion Vice Commander Clifton Kilby (also a member of Post #290) led the Pledge of Allegiance. Speakers included King Mayor Rick McCraw and Post #290 Commander Ed Ballard, who together presented a wreath in honor of the fallen service members. The West Stokes High School band performed the National Anthem and special music.
