WALLACE — Wallace Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center residents cheered on the Carolina Strawberry Festival 5K runners on May 4.

Wallace Parks and Recreation and Full Send Racing partnered together this year to bring the 2024 Carolina Strawberry Festival 5K Run and Walk to the lineup of weekend events.

According to the festival website, the 5K Run and Walk was organized to support the community and a new inclusive playground at Clement Park.

“Wallace Parks and Recreation is currently working on a project that would allow children with disabilities to be able to have a safe and accommodating playground to enjoy,” said the festival website.

291 runners ran past the Wallace Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center twice and three staff members participated in the race including Megan Freeman, Administrator; Frances McTee, Speech Therapist; and Maria Sauno, LPN.

Residents wore a special shirt custom made for the event that read “Life is Sweet at Wallace Rehabilitation & Healthcare” and had a blast cheering on the participants.
