Health department cites 2 Springfield kitchens for out-of-date food
This week, Springfield-Greene County Health Department inspectors found two kitchens storing food past its use-by date, according to reports. Both King's Asian Chef, 1336 N. Glenstone Ave., and The Kennedy, 416 S. South Ave., were cited for having food past the seven-day discard date, according to July 20 and July 22 reports, respectively. King's Asian Chef had cooked noodles and beef in the walk-in cooler, the July 20 report said, and the violation was corrected by discarding the items. The Kennedy had sliced tomatoes (discard date July 22), pesto (discard date July 15 and 18) and Bolognese sauce (discard date July 17), the July 22 report said, all of which were voluntarily discarded. According to the Missouri Food Code, ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food may be stored for up to seven days if it's stored at or below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Issues found during inspections fall into either priority or non-priority violations. Priority violations impact the safety of the food, such as cross-contamination between raw and ready-to-eat food, improper food temperature and poor personal hygiene and employee health. Multiple priority violations can lead to an establishment being shut down. Non-priority violations alone do not directly affect food safety, such as dirty
