Trooper injured when alleged OVI driver hits cruiser on Ohio Turnpike
FREMONT — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper suffered minor injury when an alleged drunken driver crashed into his cruiser in an Ohio Turnpike median crossover Monday night, the patrol reported. Curtis A. Rogers, Jr., 33, of Huron, Ohio, was booked into the Sandusky County jail following the 11:50 p.m. crash in Rice Township, west of the State Rt. 53 interchange, on charges of third-degree aggravated vehicular assault and misdemeanor operating a vehicle while impaired, troopers from the patrol’s Milan post said. According to the report, Mr. Rogers’ pickup truck was westbound when it went into the left shoulder and hit the marked Dodge Charger patrol car that was parked in a crossover. The trooper, who was not named, was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo for treatment, while Mr. Rogers was unhurt in the crash.
Local police departments to receive state funding to reduce violent crime
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Two local police departments are receiving funding from a grant through the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program. Governor DeWine announced on May 21 that the $1.6 million grant will be used to help local law enforcement agencies implement violent crime reduction strategies in their communities.
