‘Running of the sheep’ in Petaluma
As livestock drives go, this one was … different. Pushed by ranchers on a quad, and kept in line by a pair of highly concerned dogs, a flock of about 65 sheep mobbed down urban East D Street in Petaluma on Saturday morning. ROHNERT PARK -- A Rohnert Park burglary investigation led to the discovery of roughly 1,000 birds allegedly kept for fighting, along with five malnourished horses and two malnourished dogs, the city's Department of Public Safety said Friday.The investigation started on March 19, when Rohnert Park officers were sent to a storage facility in the 6000 block of Commerce Boulevard to investigate an alleged burglary.Officers soon identified Audrina Renee McPeters as a suspect in the case and she was later picked up by Santa Rosa police and booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of conspiracy, burglary and grand theft, public...
Petaluma roads closing Saturday for Transhumance Festival’s sheep parade
A herd of sheep will be making their way through Petaluma Saturday morning, causing several roads to close as part of a festival dedicated to reconnecting people and the land. The annual Transhumance Festival, named for the tradition of moving livestock from one grazing ground to another in a seasonal cycle, will open with a woolly procession from the Petaluma Fairgrounds through the downtown area to Steamer Landing Park between 10 and 11 a.m.
