Young showed his support for the project to restore the Historic Americus Colored Hospital. The hospital is set to become the Americus-Sumter County Civil Rights and Cultural Center.

Gun-Buy-Back program to help take illegal firearms off Cordele streets
CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - A nonprofit organization in Crisp County is tackling crime head-on by coming up with different ways of solving problems in the community. The city of Cordele has not seen a recent uptick in crime, but they have seen an increase in guns on the streets, according to the Chief of Police. That’s why a local non-profit organization is proposing a gun buyback plan to help get those off of the streets.

Man found deceased in swimming pool over the weekend
ELKO – A 27-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:45 p.m, according to Houston County Coroner James Williams. The incident occurred in the 2400 block of Elko Road, where first responders pulled the victim from the pool. He was then transported to Houston Healthcare in Perry and pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
