National Week dedicated to Salvation Army starting May 13

VICTORIA, Texas - Salvation Army Week is celebrated from May 13 to May 19, and the Salvation Army of Victoria is preparing to celebrate. The Salvation Army works year round to aid individuals and families in need or who may find themselves in crisis. They offer shelter to the homeless and provide food and meals to the hungry.

Their recently Life Enrichment Center (LEC) provides the community with several resources. They offer

certifications for food handlers, food managers, forklift and other entry-level positions, and provide a medical clinic for the community.

The week dedicated to the Salvation Army was established in 1954 and was originally observed from November 14 to December 4. It was declared by the United States Congress and proclaimed by President Eisenhower as a reminder to Americans to give freely of themselves.

Now the Salvation Army works in 134 countries worldwide and has more than 7,000 location centers across the U.S.

In the U.S. They issue a cry to Americans to “Love Beyond” saying when people love beyond the circumstances of life, they provide hope and help to millions in need. Love Beyond is also a symbol of the programs and resources offered year-round by the organization.

“National Salvation Army Week presents a wonderful opportunity for us to let the community know more about the work of The Salvation Army in our local community,” said Captain Kenny Jones with The Salvation Army of Victoria County. “We want to recognize and celebrate the donors, partners, supporters and volunteers who make the ministry of the Army possible and invite everyone to join us as we celebrate National Salvation Army Week.”

The Salvation Army will host a Family Store Flash Sales May 17 and Nation Police Week 5K Run Canteen Even May 18, celebration.
