BREAKING NEWS: Public defender office continues plans with Brian Watson despite indictment

VICTORIA, Texas - The Oversight Board of the Crossroads Regional Public Defender Office unanimously decided to proceed with Brian Watson as the public defender office.

Brian Watson was appointed into the position for Victoria, Jackson, Lavaca and Refugio counties on March 25, but he was indicted last week on an allegation of "misuse of official information.”

In a press release, Victoria Commissioner's Court Judge Ben Zeller wrote:

"As is the case with any indictment, it is a legal issue that will be resolved within the court system not in a meeting room."

Brian Watson will start the job as planned on May 6.

New public defender will begin his new role in April

VICTORIA, Texas - History was made today inside Victoria County commissioner's court, with the appointing of a new public defender. Brian Watson from Beeville, was named chief public defender for the four-county district which includes not only Victoria County, but also Lavaca, Jackson, and Refugio counties.The role of the public defender is to provide legal counsel to those that are not able to afford legal representation. Watson says that the role of public defender will continue to serve their clients after the trial is over.'We have a holistic model. A holistic model means that we treat the root causes of crimes, not just the aftermath. So, we connect our clients with economic opportunities and educational services. mental health providers and services, and substance abuse treatment.,” said Watson.Watson's first day on the job will be April 22nd .

City of Beeville releases statement on indictment involving Mayor Brian Watson

BEEVILLE, Texas - The City of Beeville released a statement regarding an indictment against its mayor Brian Watson. The City of Beeville press release said, "We are respectfully giving Mayor Watson the time and space he needs to handle this personal matter independently."
