ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — After falling short in the Class AA sectional title two years in a row, the third time proved to be the charm for Victor. The Blue Devils took down Athena 11-1 at Innovative Field in the Section V Class AA championship game.

Senior Weston Elkovitch put on a two-way performance for the ages. In their three sectional tournament games, Athena scored 30 runs. The Canisius commit allowed just one run and struck out nine batters in a complete game effort.

Elkovitch was equally as dominant in the batter’s box. He finished with three hits and four RBI as he was also named the MVP for the tournament.

Victor jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning after a trio of RBI singles. Athena clapped back in the third inning after a RBI triple from Sammy Saucke. However, the Blue Devils took off from there with three runs in the fourth inning and five more in the sixth.

It’s Victor’s first sectional title since 2018 and 12th overall as a program.

The Blue Devils will advance to the Far West Regionals where they will take on Clarence out of Section VI. The game will take place on Saturday, June 1st at 4pm at Grand Island High School.

Athena had their dreams of winning back-to-back sectional titles come to an end. Their season concluded with a 17-7 record.
