Vicksburg man killed, woman arrested for murder after early morning shooting

A Vicksburg man was killed early Wednesday morning and a local woman is in jail on murder charges, Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) has confirmed.

According to VPD, officers responded to the area of Grove Street and Hayes Street in reference to a shooting at approximately 1:50 a.m. and found 34-year-old Hakeem Samall Burnett on the ground suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the body.

VPD said Burnett was rushed to Merit Health River Region, where he succumbed to his injuries.

VPD said 41-year-old Rheuvonia Ramekia Buck was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, pending her initial court appearance.

The motive for the shooting is believed to be related to a domestic dispute, VPD said.
