    Mattie Lee Davis gave a piano recital at Asbury College in Kentucky. • Kate Lavins left for D.C. • Bud Lee was seriously ill.

    George Brent and Geneva Lee Hearn were married. • Mrs. Fred Young and Mrs. Julius Klein motored to Memphis. • Mrs. Oscar LaBarre entertained Mrs. William Allen of Raleigh.

    80 Years Ago: 1944

    Mrs. Billy Boult of Mobile was in Vicksburg visiting relatives. • Dr. and Mrs. Jack Birchett left for a visit to Chicago. • Mrs. Clyde Lawson returned from a visit in Shreveport.

    Charles Lamar Sanders Jr. celebrated his third birthday. • Charles L. Piazza Jr. received an award after completing the two-year pre-pharmacy curriculum at Northeast Louisiana School of Pharmacy. • Mr. and Mrs. Earl Joe Nelson announced the birth of their son, Daryl Ray.

    James McNair was the driver of the Coca-Cola truck that jackknifed into a power pole on Halls Ferry Road. • A mass was said for Brother Thomas Ignatius Anderson, a member of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and former principal of St Aloysius School. • Dewana Renee Rogers celebrated her fourth birthday.

    A local delegation took a trip to Gettysburg. • AmeriCorps was dedicated to the Vicksburg community. • Bowmar students celebrated Earth Day by planting a tree and with a program.
