Former Hornell man sentenced to 40 years to life in Steuben County court

A former Hornell man has been sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison after his conviction on multiple felony counts in September following a trial in Steuben County Court. Mihaly Bodnar, 55, appeared before Judge Christopher Tunney on Thursday, Nov. 5 for sentencing, the Steuben County District Attorney's Office announced. Bodnar, a Hungarian national, was accused of sexually abusing and injuring two children under the age of 11 in the City of Hornell multiple times over a period running from August of 2024 through March of 2025. Judge Tunney cited the powerful testimony provided by the two children and the life changing impact the torture inflicted upon them before issuing the sentence, according to the DA's Office. “There is no way to make these children whole, to take away the pain he caused – but maybe this sentence and the assurance that he will never walk free again will help them begin to heal. They will know their bravery saved others from the same suffering,” said Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker. Bodnar addressed the court and stated he had no remorse for crimes and claimed innocence despite the guilty verdict, the DA's Office said. Baker said he
