Our on-again, off again thunderstorm threat will be on again today, off Saturday, and then back on for Sunday. This as occasional weather systems move through an unstable airmass over the middle of the country. For today we are outlooked with a level 2 risk of severe. This will be mainly this afternoon and evening as a weak cold front approaches. Damaging winds and large hail will be the greatest threats. Otherwise it will be breezy and warm again, with highs of about 80 to 85.
Mostly dry tonight, chance for more storms Friday
Good evening, Heartland, it’s shaping up to be pretty dry tonight, though an isolated shower is not out of the question, just unlikely. During the pre-dawn hours on Friday, there’s a chance for thunderstorms moving into the area, although the severe threat for these storms is low. However, another round of storms enters the Heartland during the afternoon hours, bringing the threat of gusty winds and hail. The severe threat for these storms is higher than the pre-dawn round of storms. These storms should be out of the area as we head into the evening, with much calmer conditions for your Friday night. Lows tomorrow will be in the upper 60s and highs will be in the low 80s. Saturday will also be a very nice day to enjoy any outdoor activities planned, with highs in the mid 80s.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55. The vehicle has been removed and the roadway is now clear. A Heartland News team member was at the site of the crash and said it happened in the northbound lanes of I-55 near the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

Man found guilty of murder for deadly East Prairie shooting
MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A Charleston, Missouri man was found guilty of murder on Wednesday for a deadly shooting that happened in East Prairie nearly two years ago. According to court records, DeParis D. Townsend had been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest after he allegedly shot and killed Joshua Sisk on July 28, 2022.
